Isolde Throws Out a Royal Aunt—and Fires Marian The Royal Mercantile Guild buzzes for Lady Eleanor Montfort, the royal aunt whose approval could make or break Isolde's dream of marrying Adrian. Isolde rehearses every bow and smile, ready to impress. Lady Eleanor arrives early in plain clothes, unnoticed and unannounced. Mistaking her for a beggar, Isolde drives her away with cruel words and a shove that leaves the older woman hurt. Marian, still in her cleaner's uniform, steps between them. She calls out Isolde's hypocrisy and cruelty in front of the staff. Humiliated and furious, Isolde fires Marian on the spot and summons the guards to drag both Marian and the injured stranger out. The doors are about to close on a disaster no one in the guild recognizes. Guards close in on Marian and the injured stranger—does Isolde know she just assaulted the royal aunt she is desperate to impress?
