Lin’s Suicide Night and the Broken Oath One month earlier, Lin Guoqiang is drowning. The credit union wants a debt he can’t pay, his home is hollow, and he is ready to end it. Zhao Weidong drags him back, then empties his savings—12,000 yuan—and leans on every connection he has to win the brick-factory canteen contract, even with the factory accountant doubting Lin. In front of witnesses, Lin swears that if he ever says half a “no” to Zhao, he isn’t human. Now, across the table, Zhao sees the same man counting profits and looking away. Lin swore before the whole brick factory he’d never refuse Zhao—so why is he sliding over a small dividend and refusing to meet his eyes?
