Olaf Strikes Leah; Kalen's Soul Wakes and Frost Blocks the Fireball On Reef Island's dragon-taming ground, Alan fails to bind a dragon again. Olaf turns the crowd's laughter into a weapon, then strikes Leah when she steps between them. Alan is cornered, dragon breath rushing at his face, and something ancient cracks open in his chest: Kalen's soul. Frost, the Moonshadow Spirit Dragon only Kalen could command, tears through the sky and blocks the fatal fireball with divine breath. Elders and tribal chiefs freeze. Olaf's triumph turns to disbelief as the white shape hovers over the boy he just called worthless. Frost has returned for a boy the island calls dragon repeller—why is she bowing her head only to Alan?
