Dale Shoots His Own Dog, Then Points the Gun at Martin In the underground dogfighting pits, Martin and Phil bet everything on Warrior, a black dog with a fighter's heart. The purse could clear their debt. Warrior is winning when Dale, the opposing owner, shoots his own dog and lies that Warrior is dead. Martin charges him, demanding the money. Dale pulls a gun. They run with Warrior bleeding in their arms, but the dog dies before they reach help. Dale's gang is already hunting them. Martin and Phil are broke, grieving, and marked. The slum has no safe corner left. Warrior's blood is still on Martin's hands when Dale's men spread through the slum—who will they find first?
